#3rivers – Treasure of Three Rivers
Interreg VI-A Hungary–Slovakia ProgrammeWith the support of the Interreg VI-A Hungary–Slovakia Programme, a cross-border tourism development initiative is being launched in Bodrogköz. The action plan, #3rivers – Treasure of Three Rivers, which includes several projects, aims to develop the area embraced by the Bodrog, Tisza and Latorica rivers into a unified and clearly recognisable tourism destination, while giving new momentum to sustainable tourism in the region.
Bodrogköz, embraced by the Bodrog, Tisza and Latorica rivers, is one of the most unique landscapes of the Carpathian Basin. Although the tourism offer is currently still fragmented, coordinated developments can connect it into a unified visitor experience, making the region more visible on the European tourism market. The development of tourism not only serves the preservation of natural assets, but also creates new economic and community opportunities for the people living in the region.
The active involvement of local stakeholders contributes to ensuring that the developments strengthen the economy and community life of Bodrogköz in a sustainable way in the long term.
The unified visitor management approach implemented within the action plan supports cooperation among tourism stakeholders in the region, the coordination of programmes and sites, and the provision of information to visitors. Through joint developments, a coordinated programme offer and unified communication, the Hungarian and Slovak partners implementing the projects contribute to presenting the tourism offer of Bodrogköz to visitors in a clearer and more organised way.
One of the greatest advantages of cross-border cooperation is that Hungarian and Slovak partners can jointly develop the region’s tourism offer and international visibility. Unified marketing, a common visual identity, professional training courses and study tours all contribute to creating a stronger network among tourism stakeholders in Bodrogköz and enabling them to appear jointly on the tourism market.
Developments will be implemented in Cigánd, Karcsa and Pácin in Hungary, and in Sirník, Borša, Zatín, Kráľovský Chlmec and Strážne in Slovakia. Cycling and ecotourism infrastructure, rest areas and visitor centres will be created, while exhibition spaces presenting the historical and cultural heritage of the region will also be renewed.
The aim of the investments is to make Bodrogköz an increasingly attractive destination for visitors seeking nature-based, active recreation and an authentic landscape experience, while also strengthening cross-border regional cooperation.
